AEV’s 33” Tire Clearance Kit for the 2017-2022 Colorado ZR2 and ZR2 Bison is a cost effective solution for customers looking to fit a 33″ tall tire (285/70R17) under their truck, without the need for a lift or leveling kit! This kit isn’t just about providing additional clearance in the front end of your truck either. We developed the AEV Colorado 33″ Tire Clearance Kit with the rear end in mind as well. By fully articulating the truck’s suspension, we identified and addressed key contact points at all four corners of the truck. Since trimming is necessary to prevent contact under full articulation regardless of lift height, this kit will also benefit customers with a leveling kit already installed and are planning to take their truck off-road.

The AEV Colorado 33″ Tire Clearance Kit includes all the necessary front and rear closeout panels, support brackets and trim templates for a clean and professional looking installation.

Product FAQs

Will this work on non-ZR2 or non-ZR2 Bison models as well?

No, this kit will only work on a 2017-22 Colorado ZR2 or a ZR2 Bison

Can I run a 33" tire on my stock ZR2 or ZR2 Bison wheels?

Most likely, no. Depending on how wide of a tire width, you may also need a small wheel spacer to clear a 33" tire on the OEM ZR2 or ZR2 Bison wheels.

We recommend using our Crestone DualSport wheel or an aftermarket wheel with similar specs ( 17x8 / +25mm offset / 5.5" backspacing).

I see people trim for 33's without using a kit like this. Why spend the money?

That is true, it is possible to make room for 33" tires without using any additional parts. However, in our opinion this is the right way to do it...

We include both templates AND rear trim templates, so you know exactly how much to cut and where. To finish off the sections of the front and rear fender flares that have been trimmed, we include a set of closeout panels and support brackets.

We developed the trim templates based off the contact points under full articulation/steering with a 33" tire. That means NO guesswork or trial and error!

Do I still need a leveling kit to clear a 33" tire?

No. We designed this kit to allow for enough clearance to fit a 33" tall tire (285/70R17) without a leveling kit. However, we do recommend using this kit in conjunction with a small (1-1.5") leveling kit for a little extra breathing room and a more level stance.

Are there any certain wheel specifications I need to be aware of?

Yes, offset/backspacing is critical. The lower the offset, the further out from the fender the wheel will sit. The further out from the fender the wheel sits, the more room it needs to turn.

We recommend using our Crestone DualSport wheel or an aftermarket wheel with similar specs ( 17x8 / +25mm offset / 5.5" backspacing).

I already have a leveling kit with 33" tires, is there any advantage to using this kit?

Absolutely! While eyeballing how much to trim in order to clear a 33" is no big deal on the street, off-road is where any tire rubbing will occur. Our kit takes both front AND rear rub points into consideration - under articulation.

Do I have to cut any sheet metal in the front or the rear?

Yes, this kit does require MINOR trimming of the sheet metal in the front and rear. AEV recommends an air saw for the best results.

I have an aftermarket front/rear bumper, will this kit still work?

Yes, this kit is not bumper dependent in either the front or rear. The only thing that matters is which fender flare you have - the OE ZR2 flare or OE ZR2 Bison Flare.
