- Why did AEV go with an 18” wheel vs a 17” wheel?
By moving up to an 18” wheel on HD Ram, it allows us to use the new 40” BFGoodrich HD-Terrain KT tire which features a Load Range F, making it the perfect tire for 3/4 and 1-ton Prospector XL builds.
- My truck has the same bolt pattern, will the Salta XD fit?
While the Salta XD may physically “fit” the truck, we cannot guarantee how well it will perform on the truck. AEV wheels are designed specifically for certain vehicle platforms, which means the wheel specs (hub bore, backspacing, and offset) may be different than other aftermarket wheels on the market that are designed to fit a wider variety of vehicles.
- How different is the offset compared to my stock wheel?
The HD Ram fitment is VERY aggressive (-7mm offet) and is designed for trucks with AEV HighMark Fender Flares and 40” tires (up to 13.50 wide). This wheel will push the tire past the OEM fender flare quite a bit, so buyer beware!
- Will I need to replace my lug nuts?
No, these wheels are designed to use the OEM lug nuts and wheel locks.
- Are these wheels tested?
Yes, all of AEV's wheels are tested under SAE J2530 requirements. This consists of three tests in a controlled environment to test for radial fatigue, cornering load and curb impact. These tests are designed to expose any material weakness or design flaws. Additionally, all tests are performed with the largest possible tire size for the application, not the smallest.
- AEV products are normally made in the United States, so why are wheels made overseas?
At AEV, we remain committed to American manufacturing, and we would much rather have our wheels manufactured in the US. But right now, you can’t get wheels made in the USA at aftermarket volumes. Still to this day, the only cast wheel plants left in the US are for high volume OE wheel programs. So unfortunately, buying from China is a necessary evil of being in the aftermarket cast wheel business. We have made the effort to buy from a high quality Chinese plant. Our plant also produces OE wheels for Volkswagen, Audi, BMW and Harley Davidson, among others. Our supplier has American employees on the ground in China who oversee our programs for us, and we have been over to China to inspect and visit the plant in person. If/when lower volume wheel manufacturing becomes feasible again in the US, we will be first in line.
- What is the warranty?
All of AEV’s wheels carry a lifetime structural warranty against manufacturer defects and a 1 year warranty on the finish.
